JOANNE DEAKER
Joanne Deaker has gained recognition for her close-up, limited palette, acrylic-on-canvas paintings of animals (sheep, cattle, horses), and the land she deeply cares for and loves exploring. More recently, she has developed a complex technique of engraving and painting on plexiglass and board.
She holds a First Class Honours degree in Agricultural Science from Lincoln University and a Veterinary Science degree from Massey University. She worked as a farm worker, agricultural scientist and a veterinarian, before retuning to her childhood passion of creating art, a talent that was recognized by her peers as far back as primary school. Since 2002, her work has appeared in 5 solo and over 60 group exhibitions throughout New Zealand, and more recently in the UK. She has been a finalist in, and won several art awards. Joanne is currently represented by 4 commercial galleries and is a member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is held in both private and corporate collections, internationally, including the Hawkes Bay Regional Council in New Zealand, and a private collection in Oman. “I paint what I love about life, whether it is an ideal I hold or direct experience. My paintings are always related to something that has had a positive impact on me as I develop as a human being within this beautiful world we co-inhabit. I believe in the power images have to uplift and it is my sincere hope that my artwork does this for you.” |
