MEGAN SMITH
Megan is a local Hanmer Springs abstract acrylic artist that has a passion for dramatic colours and patterns. She loves the organic form of liquid art and the way each individuals imagination sees different themes and objects within the art. Originally from Nelson she moved with her husband and son to Hanmer Springs in 2009 after spending a lot of holidays here, they fell in love with the relaxed and beautiful alpine environment.
Megan's grandfather was Robert Lindsay Fowler an oil painter from Riwaka, in the Nelson region, and as a child she remembers sitting in the living room watching him paint in front of the TV with his friend Sir Toss Woollaston who is a famous New Zealand artist. Her interest in art grew from this and was her main focus at school. She was strongly involved in set design and construction of a lot of school productions, creating artwork for many of these. Two of her favourite Surrealist artists are Salvador Dali and Marc Chagall.
As life changes, over the years she stopped doing her art work and became a mother and a busy business owner. Recently she has returned to her love of art as a way to relax and enjoy the spare time she has and to take a break from the craziness of life.
