RICHARD GRAHAME
Hanmer Springs Artist Richard Grahame has been involved in the Arts for the last 30 years.
New Zealand born, I started experimenting with Oils, Pen and Ink in the early 1980s. Developing several different styles before moving to Austraila in 1990 where I continued to paint and exhibit for Major and Regional Galleries throughout Queensland and NSW. I also worked at applying various techniques to commercial screen printing and was awarded the 'QLD Environmental Energy Award' in 1993 for work in Ultra Violet Light ink curing. Also being involved in pioneering the application of the "four colour printing process" designed specifically for screen printing photos etc. We accommodated clients such as "Coca Cola", "XXXX" and eventually all the Major Theme Parks such as "Dreamworld", "Sea World" and "Wet n Wild" etc. In 1998 I teamed up with local potter 'Maggi Turner' of "JAZZ POTTERY" and helped to set up, with a team of budding young artists, a studio in Tweed Heads NSW. Turning out handmade, original three dimensional tile features and creative, brightly coloured pottery, which sold throughout Australia and beyond. After painting over 400 works and making "countless" pieces of pottery I returned home to New Zealand in 2002 continuing to paint. Successfully exhibiting in Hanmer Springs "Majuba Gallery" as well as The Amuri & Hurunui Galleries. "Artz studio" was started in September 2005 where I continued make my unique style of pottery in my studio in Hanmer until 2012. I have now taken some time to fit out a studio at my home in Waiau between play writing, music writing and preforming with our local band " Test of Time". Although inspired by many different mediums I have always carried on with my first passion - Oil on Canvas. From the surrealistic placement of shapes to suggest form and figure to the fractured "cubistic" images which challenge the viewer to assemble. My works push the figurative almost to abstraction. Self taught, I site my influences from Picasso, Miro and Dali. |
