SHIRLEY CRESSWELL
|
Shirley Cresswell grew up in Pukekohe, New Zealand.
As a child she often watched her mother paint scenes of New Zealand in oils and gained an appreciation of realist style artwork. As a child Shirley loved to draw and “colour in” and from a young age dabbled in oils. Choosing technical drawing at high school, Shirley moved away from art, concentrating more on sciences. After attending evening art classes at Waikato Society of Arts a few years ago Shirley has returned to her love of painting and has become passionate about her art. She has since developed her own style and technique and now uses acrylic paints. Specialising in New Zealand coastal scenes and mountain landscapes Shirley depicts these in a realist style that captures light in her work. Her talent for painting detailed images that appear true to the scene and in proportion has meant she is kept busy with commission work receiving requests for cars, trucks and commercial buildings. Many of the landscapes that Shirley has painted are from photos she has taken while on holiday; in particular Hahei, National Park and Algies Bay. Shirley loves how something beautiful can be created from a blank canvas and is thrilled that people can obtain pleasure and memories from the images she creates. |
