STEPHANIE CRISP
Now resident in Lyttelton, Canterbury, Stephanie has relocated from the Waikato to be closer to her family and to live in an area she loves. In Hamilton she spent the last 15 years teaching art at Hamilton's Fraser High School.
Stephanie has painted for as long as she can remember and has been an Art Teacher for just about as long. She has loved teaching, and memories of past students and their successes are treasured. Most Christchurch people have seen her work without perhaps realising it - Stephanie was the winner of the 2005 Christchurch (Telecom) White Pages Art Award, and the work, called "Canterbury Plains and Mountains", that year graced all of the Canterbury region's White Pages Telephone Directories. Here is what the judges said about her work: "Stephanie's stunning artwork immediately evokes the gorgeous Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps. The vibrant colour, texture and composition has a lovely balance and will make a fabulous cover. This beautiful work has used the technique of embroidery to intensify the surface qualities of the landscape. The separation of colour and linear perspective give this piece an unusual take on the region." Stephanie's artwork is colourful, full of fun and stories, and inspired by many things. In fact most of Stephanie's work is full of stories. A walk in the bush, a spotted jug she arranges her flowers in, the birds who come to feed in her garden . . . . always a delightful story to be told. Stephanie has also been a key figure in the Arts scene in the Waikato where she has held these positions:
As a full-time artist now living in Lyttelton, Stephanie is able to fulfil her dream. She paints most days and enjoys experimenting, developing themes and completing works. Her works are strong, almost sculptural and full of Pacific colour. |
