Kelvin McMillan was born in 1959 and raised on a Dairy Farm in South Westland before moving to Canterbury in the late 1960’s.
He was interested in art from an early age, becoming a full time artist at the age of 22. He initially concentrated on Pencil drawings, mainly of architectural subjects, finding inspiration in derelict houses and farm buildings. Kelvin then developed his work into the Watercolour medium and more recently acrylics. |

Majuba Gallery is Hanmer Springs' very contemporary art space, showing an ever changing pallet of local artists with a distinctly regional feel. From their staple artists such as Clare Wilcox – whose acrylic 'glass-like/tile looking' pieces are simply breathtaking; and Craig Fletcher – whose ceramic works look extremely realistic.
Majuba Gallery prides itself on its extensive array of talented artists, including Karen Smith's landscapes that truly capture the essence of New Zealand's countryside; as well as Brian Strong's New Zealand idyllic coastline pieces with fragments of old maps and The Treaty of Waitangi incorporated into his pieces.
